District 202 students earned all nine top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library’s 2023 Short Story Contest.
The Short Story Contest is open to fourth through sixth grade students. Students wrote an original story in 500 to 650 words.
The library received 46 entries from 16 District 202 and other area schools.
Author Liesl Shurtliff judged this year’s contest. Shurtliff is a New York Times Bestselling author of the (Fairly) True Tales series and the Time Castaways trilogy.
The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:
First Place: Bill's Story by Henry Hohman (River View Elementary School)
Second Place: The Book Fairy by Inaya Ahmed (Lincoln Elementary School)
Third Place: The Missing Crown Guard by Aliyah Lopez (Eichelberger Elementary School)
First Place: Too Many! by Maya Batiller (Eagle Pointe Elementary School)
Second Place: CF Stingray by Nala Panozzo (Lincoln Elementary School)
Third Place: The World in the Time of Me by Aarav Sharma (Lincoln Elementary School)
First Place: Gone by Noelle Veenker (Ira Jones Middle School)
Second Place: The Immigrant by Lily Brandon (Indian Trail Middle School)
Third Place: The Ocean My Joy by Luisa Savazzini (Heritage Grove Middle School)
